MOTOR SPORTS CLUB BENEFITS FROM FUNDING

12 July, 2010

Motor sports participants will benefit from over $290,000 in Bligh Government funding as part of the Sport and Recreation Infrastructure program.

Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt said the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club Inc will receive $296,250.00 to construct a motorsports track for go-karting, motorcycle road racing, quad bike racing and supermotard at Gunyarra.

“The Bligh Government, through the 2010-11 Budget, is delivering for the people of Whitsunday,” Ms Jarratt said.

“Our local sporting clubs, just like the Whitsunday Moto Sports Club, are the lifeblood of the community, and this infrastructure funding will provide a major boost to the area by creating jobs and giving people what they want and need.

“It will help increase their membership numbers and provide more opportunities for people to get involved and get active.”

Sports Minister Phil Reeves, who announced the new sport and recreation funding programs earlier this year, said the programs were designed to increase participation, recruit volunteers, and encourage disadvantaged communities to participate in sport and recreation.

“Under our Toward Q2:  Tomorrow’s Queensland initiative, we want to help Queenslanders’ become Australia’s healthiest people by reducing obesity levels by one third by 2020,” Mr Reeves said.

“The Queensland Government invests more money in sport and recreation than any other state in Australia.  Our investment helps Queenslanders with their fitness goals and ensures Queensland is the premiere state when it comes to sporting achievements.  We will continue to invest in the health and well-being of Queenslanders.”
