Jan Jarratt - Working hard for Whitsunday

ONE OF QUEENSLAND’S STARS WILL BE SHINING A LITTLE BRIGHTER

06 July, 2010

One of Queensland’s sizzling party towns will be shining a little brighter when new lighting is completed in Airlie Beach later this year, Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said.

“Airlie Beach is an internationally recognised tourist destination and the new lighting will keep visitors safe and ensure the region’s reputation continues to shine,” Ms Jarratt said.

“The 50 new lights will be located along Shute Harbour Road and along the footpaths throughout the foreshore park reserve between Airlie Creek and the Airlie Esplanade.

“This means the central area of Airlie Beach will be safer and more inviting for locals and tourists alike.

“Tourists love visiting Airlie Beach for its unique atmosphere and its position as the gateway to the Whitsundays so it is important to Queensland’s tourism industry that we continue to support the region.

“That is why the Bligh Government has committed $75,000 in funding towards this excellent project.

“Mayor Mike Brunker and his Councillors are doing a great job with this project.

“This project has involved extensive community consultation including working with the Whitsunday Public Safety Task Force which involves representatives from the police, local business organisations and community groups.”

Ms Jarratt said the Bligh Government had provided more than $83 million in grants and subsidies since July 2006 to help Whitsunday Regional Council complete a range of projects.
