WHITSUNDAY WAY SIGNS TO MARK TOURIST ROUTE

22 June, 2010

Two new signs have arrived in the Mackay/Whitsunday region, marking the Whitsunday Way from the Bruce Highway through to Shute Harbour.

Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said the Whitsunday Way signs would put the region well and truly on the map as a popular tourist destination.

“A lot of hard work went on behind the scenes and I commend Main Roads for working with the local community and key stakeholders to come up with a design that is uniquely ours.

“The new signs reflect the importance of the Whitsunday Way in connecting Proserpine with Shute Harbour and all destinations in between.

“Hopefully, we’ll encourage even more visitors to spend time in our beautiful region,” she said.

Ms Jarratt also commended the Whitsunday Way Project Advisory Committee for playing a pivotal role in the development of the signs.

“It’s about promoting our whole region – the Whitsunday Way – and it doesn’t get much better than that,” Ms Jarratt said.

While the route has been rebranded as the Whitsunday Way, the gazetted name will remain as Proserpine–Shute Harbour Road.
