There’s only three days left until the annual Proserpine Show and thanks to a grant from the Queensland Government’s Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program, the Proserpine Agricultural Pastoral and Industrial Association has received $20,000 to repair the damaged showground facilities after Cyclone Ului.
Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt welcomed the announcement and congratulated Mr Tony Large, President of Show Whitsunday.
“I’m so pleased that this year’s Show will continue to offer the same enjoyment for the thousands of visitors it attracts each year,” Ms Jarratt said.
“The showgrounds really suffered from Cyclone Ului and if it wasn’t for all the wonderful volunteers who offer their time to repair the damage, this year’s Show wouldn’t have gone ahead.
“This is why we need to show our appreciation and gratitude for the dedication of the thousands of hours these special people give to our community,” Ms Jarratt said.
The Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program was made available to assist sport and recreation clubs and organisations with the restoration and repair of infrastructure and replacement of equipment. While applications for the Program have now closed, the funding was provided upfront to clubs, so restoration work could begin immediately.
“By ensuring that sporting and recreation facilities like the Proserpine Showgrounds are quickly repaired after natural disasters, we can ensure the community can carry on and enjoy events like Show Whitsunday,” Ms Jarratt said.
