More than $38 000 will be provided to Whitsunday community groups in the latest round of Queensland Government gaming grants.
Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt today announced the latest round of Gambling Community Benefit Fund recipients, saying the money will help meet the ongoing demand for community services.
“The people behind the organisations face a daily challenge of meeting the needs of their local area and always do this with a smile,” Ms Jarratt said.
“These government grants will hopefully broaden their smiles while continuing to help fulfil the needs of Queenslanders.”
Proserpine Bowls Club, a recipient of the latest round of funding, will receive over $7,000 to install air conditioning, ceiling insulation and replace chairs. Whitsunday PCYC will also receive funding of over $27,000 to purchase sports and games equipment as well as replace the basketball floor.
“Local group, Fauna Rescue Whitsundays, will be able to send its members to attend the National Wildlife Rehabilitation Conference (NWRC) in Adelaide – thanks to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. They’ll receive $4, 208.95,” Ms Jarratt said.
The Gambling Community Benefit Fund uses a percentage of state revenue raised from gaming activities to offer grants of up to $35 000 to assist community organisations in Queensland.
Since its inception, more than 36 800 applications have been funded, totalling in excess of $451 million.
Last year the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation (OLGR) introduced an online grants management system, which allows community groups and not-for-profit organisations apply for funding via its website.
“The new process is part of our efforts to reduce red-tape, and it’s been working well,” said Ms Jarratt.
Community groups and not for profit organisations can now apply for solar sport and community group grants through the Gambling Community Benefit Fund. New guidelines on this initiative are available now.
