Jan Jarratt - Working hard for Whitsunday

Budget 2010

09 June, 2010

This year’s Budget will deliver an additional $3 million to a total of the $7 million Whitsunday Coast Airport redevelopment enabling the region to roll out the welcome mat to visitors, Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said today.

Ms Jarratt said the extra funding was in addition to the $4 million already committed and would provide a better level of service and comfort to passengers.

The budget also features a $50,000 contribution towards the delivery of a new Proserpine Community Centre – a project that will create jobs and help support Queensland’s economic recovery.

Funding for the Whitsunday area was announced today in Parliament by Queensland Treasurer Andrew Fraser.

Mr Fraser said the 2010-11State Budget would deliver on Labor’s promise to create more jobs, sooner.

“This is a responsible Budget that builds on the foundations for a stronger economic recovery,” Mr Fraser said.

“Our massive statewide building program will deliver more jobs as we secure a stronger, more robust Queensland economy.”

Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said the funding for the Proserpine Community Centre is very welcome.

“While this is a small contribution to the overall project it does indicate my determination to see the new Community Centre delivered in Proserpine.

“I am very pleased to see this injection from the State Government, into what will be an exciting project for Proserpine.”

Ms Jarratt said significant funding would go towards improvements at Conway National Park – an environmental icon in the region that is visited by thousands of people.

“$50,000 will go towards the completion of the $90,000 Coral Beach walking track upgrade and the installation of toilets, while $30,000 will be allocated to replace signage,” Ms Jarratt said.

“We are a growing region and need to make sure we have high quality services and plenty of recreational activities for families to live and play.”
