Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt is inviting residents to participate in an interactive online forum to have their say on the future of the State’s education system.
The forum, which will be held on Thursday 25 May at 7-8pm, will allow local residents to submit questions and comments via email prior to the forum and during the one hour online session.
“More than 1600 Queenslanders have had their say at more than 60 forums throughout Queensland since February this year,” the Member for Whitsunday said.
“Community members have been eager to voice their opinions on the education Green Paper A Flying Start for Queensland Children. The plan to move Year 7 to secondary school by 2014 is one of the hot debated topics, with discussions focusing on providing adequate resources for such a proposal.”
Strong interest remains to introduce volunteers for the Queensland Ready Readers which will assist children with reading in primary schools.
“The forums have proved to be a very valuable way of gathering important feedback and significant contributions have been made by school students as well as parents, teachers and the general community,” Ms Jarratt said.
“If you missed out on attending the recent Flying Start forum recently in Proserpine, then there’s still time for people to have their say on the future of education in Queensland.”
For more information, visit www.qld.gov.au/educationforums and complete the online survey. Alternatively, email submissions to aflyingstart@deta.qld.gov.au. Responses to the paper can be made until the end of June this year.
