The Bligh Government is providing much needed disaster funding to the Proserpine Golf Club and the Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club following a spate of storms, flooding and Cyclone Ului earlier this year.
State Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt MP said the two clubs will receive more than $26,000 in funding.
“The Proserpine Golf Club will receive $20,000, which will assist the club remove fallen trees and debris from the fairways, making it safe again for golfers,” Ms Jarratt said.
“More than $6,000 will go to the Whitsunday Dirt Riders Club to repair a toilet block, and also remove tree damage and debris.
“Sport clubs really are the lifeblood of our communities, and this funding will greatly assist these two clubs get back on their feet.”
Sport Minister Phil Reeves said the Bligh Government was pleased to be able to offer this assistance to local clubs through the Disaster Recovery Program.
“These clubs are among many across the state who will benefit from assistance received through this program,” Mr Reeves said.
“In total, $1 million was made available for sport and recreation clubs to repair facilities affected by the spate of storms and flooding.”
Mr Reeves said the Government recognised that access to quality, safe facilities was essential if Queenslanders were to lead active, healthy lifestyles.
“Sport and recreation clubs play an important part in the lives of many Queenslanders, so it’s crucial that we get their facilities repaired straight away,” he said.
“The Bligh Government is committed to ensuring clubs get repairs underway and replace or repair equipment and infrastructure as soon as possible in order to minimise disruption to the community.”
