The Bligh Government is offering a new Solar Hot Water Rebate to Queenslanders.
Member for Whitsunday, Jan Jarratt welcomed the announcement and said that the initiative will help residents with the cost of installing a solar hot water system or heat pump and save money on their electricity bills.
“The Bligh Government remains committed to helping Queenslanders to install solar hot water systems and so we have moved forward with a new rebate,” Ms Jarratt said.
“Eligible Queensland pensioners and low-income earners will be able to receive $1,000 towards the cost of installing a solar hot water system or heat pump.
“All other eligible Queenslanders will be able to receive $600 towards the cost of installing a solar hot water system or heat pump,” the Member for Whitsunday said.
On 19 February 2010 the Federal Government announced the closure of the Federal solar hot water rebate. As a result of this announcement the Queensland Solar Hot Water Program was reviewed and then closed.
“When combined with existing Federal Government incentives, some eligible households could save up to $3,300 off the cost of a new solar hot water system,” Ms Jarratt said.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for Queenslanders to Do the Bright Thing, and save on their energy bills and help the environment.
“Installing a solar hot water system can help households reduce their energy consumption and cut their electricity bills. Queensland households can also on average, reduce their carbon footprint by around two tonnes per year.
The new rebate will provide the solar industry with a platform for stable growth and allow residents a greater choice in the solar hot water market.
