The completion of work to upgrade the intersection of Proserpine–Shute Harbour Road and Beach Road was celebrated today at an official commissioning in Cannonvale.
Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt said the $5.68 million project was completed ahead of schedule, and was great result for the residents of the Whitsundays.
“About 15,000 vehicles use this section of Proserpine–Shute Harbour Road each day, so it was really important to get the job finished prior to the Christmas holiday period,” Ms Jarratt said.
“The project included construction of a roundabout at the Beach Road intersection and four-laning Proserpine–Shute Harbour Road linking the existing four-lane section in Cannonvale with the Island Drive intersection.”
Ms Jarratt, who was on hand to celebrate the completion of the project, praised the efforts of all involved with the project.
“The new roundabout is a fantastic addition to the road network in the Whitsundays, and to be finished ahead of schedule is a great effort,” she said.
“The project has increased efficiency for through traffic and improved safety for vehicles entering Proserpine-Shute Harbour Road from adjacent streets.
“Substantial landscaping in the area has also added to the visual appeal of the intersection.”
