Member for Whitsunday Jan Jarratt is inviting all local seniors to a special information morning at Carlyle Garden’s new auditorium this Thursday, 13 August.
Ms Jarratt has organised the Seniors Information Forum in an effort to bring together as many government and non-government agencies as possible to provide local seniors with information and assistance across a range of financial, health and lifestyle issues.
“This is a great opportunity for our community’s senior residents to come along and hear about government services and entitlements, as well as local non-government services and opportunities that are available to them,” Ms Jarratt said.
“I’m confident that the forum will provide answers to many of the questions that are often asked of me as the Local Member. For example, I’m often asked if people are automatically eligible for a Seniors Card, Carers Card or a Seniors Business Discount Card when they turn 60.
“Attendees will be able to check if they are receiving all the rebates and assistance available to seniors on a wide range of services including vehicle registration and electricity accounts.
“The forum will also provide an excellent opportunity to speak to local community organisations to find out how to get involved in a range of activities and, perhaps become involved in volunteering,” Ms Jarratt said.
A free morning tea will be provided and as a special treat the Belly Dancing for Older Women group will delight attendees with a performance of their very special art.
All local seniors and their families or carers are encouraged to come along, bring a friend, and stay for a cuppa and a chat on Thursday, 13 August at 930am.
