The Department of Transport and Main Roads plans to a acquire a block of land at the centre of Airlie Beach’s main street to ensure a $17 million project to revitalise the tourist town can get underway.
 
Whitsunday MP Jan Jarratt welcomed the news, saying she wanted to see the $17 million project completed as soon as possible.
 
“Our town, our tourism industry and our business community need to be able to look forward to 2012 with confidence and I believe this decision will deliver that,” Ms Jarratt said. 
 
“This acquisition will be a win/win for our community so I am very grateful to my government colleagues for backing our town.
