Social Groups and Community Organisations

The following groups are involved in various social and community activities and welcome volunteers willing to assist with events or ongoing activities.

All information and contact details included below has been provided by the groups themselves. Further details or requirements (eg. Blue Card, etc) may be required for specific roles and should be checked with the contact person listed below.

Proserpine Museum As a museum, duties include: communicating with the public, selling of souvenirs in the giftshop, research, filing and collection management. Volunteers are welcome to assist in any areas of their interest. Jennifer Steel

Whitsunday Family History Group The group conducts research and recording of local and family histories, with access to local, State, national and international research resources. Zonta Club of the Whitsundays The organisation is founded to further the health and welfare of women worldwide. The group involves businesswomen with various organisations skills and volunteers are welcome to assist with upcoming fundraising opportunities and events. Robyn Mitchell

Seaview Branch Lions Club Seaview Branch Lions Club is a small but dedicated group of people that help the needy and disadvantaged in the community. The group is based in the Northern Beaches area but their activities also involve schools in the Calen and Hampden areas as well as the beaches. Sporting and cultural organisations also receive assistance from the Seaview Branch Lions Club. The group is currently fundraising for the John E Smith Respite Centre and are seeking volunteers to offer new suggestions and bring a fresh outlook into the club.

Whitsunday Family History Group Inc The Whitsunday Family History Group Inc was established to trace and link families and their histories from all over the world. Cmmunity members and visitors can access information about their family history with some people travelling long distances. The organisation services the population encompassing Collinsville, Bowen, Proserpine and the Whitsunday Coast area. If you're interested in assisting the group, the good news is that you don't need any special skills, just an interest in history.

Proserpine State High School Canteen The Proserpine State High School are seeking volunteers to help out in their tuckshop. Everything you need to know will be provided and the good news is there's no money handling. For your time offered, you will receive as many teas and coffees you would like as well as a great healthy sandwich. Above all, the friendship is free! Your children will be thrilled to see you helping out and you'll be able to meet the teachers and make new friends within the local community.

Whitsunday Friends of the Theatre Inc Whitsunday Friends of the Theatre Inc is an invaluable group who supply catering and ushering to the Proserpine Entertainment Centre. All money raised from events held are used in purchasing small items for the centre. If you are interested in joining this wonderful group of volunteers, all you need to bring is yourself. There are no skills needed and volunteers are required for events held during the day and evening events.
