Aged and Youth Services

The following groups provide aged and youth services in the Mackay-Whitsunday region and welcome volunteers willing to assist with events or ongoing activities.

All information and contact details included below has been provided by the groups themselves. Further details or requirements (eg. Blue Card, etc) may be required for specific roles and should be checked with the contact person listed below.

Organisation Description Contact
Mackay Community Visitors Association The Association provides a one-on-one friendship with socially isolated persons, in conjunction with aged care facilities and clients who remain in their own homes. This includes young people with intellectual or physical disabilities or carers. Volunteers are welcomed to visit with clients and mutually convenient times, and are offered an opportunity to contribute to our local community and gain a sense of satisfaction and achievement.

Proserpine & District Respite Services Inc. The organisation manages the Proserpine & District Day Respite Care Centre for frail, aged and disabled persons. A yard maintenance service is also operated to assist these individuals. Volunteers required to assist in an administrative role and providing services and activities for clients.

Proserpine Homes for Aged Persons Society Inc The organisation provides low cost, comfortable housing for aged residents wishing to live independently. Volunteers are welcome to contribute to the committee, and help out with general chores and activities for residents. Lloyd Williams - President

Proserpine Meals on Wheels Inc. The organisation provides meals to aged or otherwise disabled persons who may otherwise be in danger of malnutrition. Volunteers are welcome to assist in both preparation and delivery of meals on most days of the week. John Harper

Proserpine Nursing Home Volunteers are welcome to assist with a range of recreation activities offered to residents of the Nursing Home, including bingo, bowls, painting and music. Vounteers are required Monday - Friday from 9am to 2:30pm. Cheryl Raterie

Proserpine Public Kindergarten Inc. The Kindergarten provides pre-prep programs for children and is run by a volunteer committee. Volunteers are needed to assist in raising funds for a new Kindergarten building. ph: 07 4945 1438

Whitsunday Aged Care Association The Association has been formed to oversee the develoopment of an aged care facility when demands are sufficient. Volunteers may be required in the near future to assist with the organisation and development of the aged care centre. John Powell

Whitsunday Community Visitors Whitsunday Community Visitors provides a one-on-one friendship with allocated residents from the Proserpine Nursing Home. Volunteers are welcomed to visit with clients once a fortnight and are offered an opportunity to contribute to the local community. Most importantly, gain a sense of satisfaction and achievement.

Compass Whitsundays Inc Compass Whitsundays Inc provides disability services and home and community care and their services include respite, holiday programs, life skills, accommodation support, social support social groups, domestic assistance and transport. The organisation is seeking volunteers to help in any of these fields.

Whitsunday Coast Scout Group The Whitsunday Coast Scout Group welcomes volunteers to assist with indoor and outdoor activites and be involved with the Cubs (8-10 years old) and the Scouts (10-15 year olds). The group meets every Tuesday afternoon and meets at Cannonvale, Proserpine and Bowen.
