Welcome to my online office. From this page you can get information on many of the most common requests that we receive. You can still contact us by phone or email as usual but you may find that the links on this page will give you the option of finding the information you need. If you have difficulty finding what you want here, or need to talk to someone, please phone the office on 4945 3343 and we'll be happy to assist.
This website has only recently been developed and I am keen to receive your views on how easy it is for you to use and how it can be improved. Just give my office a call with your ideas.

Funding for commnity and not-for-profit organisations can be obtained from a number of sources ranging from the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, Local Authorities and State and Federal agencies.
The Queensland Government has also set up a Grant Wizard website to assist finding grant opportunities. This wizard can help you discover grants your organisation may be eligible for, as well as provide application details.

You will need to print it out and either fax it to me at (07) 4945 3278, post to PO Box 1302, Proserpine 4800, or e-mail to whitsunday@parliament.qld.gov.au.

Queensland has three-year parliamentary terms, with an election announced usually towards the end of each term. The next State election is due in 2009.
If you need to enrol to vote for the first time or you have changed addresses you will need to fill out an electoral enrolment form which can be downloaded through the Australian Electoral Commission website. AEC manages enrolments in federal, state and local government elections. To download the form click on this link to the forms page which will take you to the AEC "Electoral Enrolment Forms - All States and Territories" page. Click on the Queensland link to download the form (PDF 74 KB).
Information about voting, elections or electorates, or even to find out if you are enrolled correctly, is available by visiting either the AEC or ECQ websites.

Applying for a postal vote
If you are generally unable to reach a polling place on State election days, you may be eligible to register as a Special Postal Voter. You will be automatically sent a ballot pack for State (and Federal) elections, so that you can vote by post.
Click here to download the application form to register as a Special Postal Voter (pdf 52 kbs). Once you have completed it, post it to my office at PO Box 1302 Proserpine, Qld, 4800 and I will ensure it is lodged for you.

If you, a relative, or a close friend is celebrating a significant birthday (90 or 100) or wedding anniversary (50, 60, 65 or 70) please click on this link to download and print off the official form (PDF 6 kbs). Justices of the Peace are highly-respected members of the community who play an important role in modern society. They are voluntary workers in Queensland's legal system and perform a range of judicial and administrative functions. there are two types of JPs; JP (Qualified) and JP (Commissioner for Declarations).
In a complex legal environment these people provide a variety of specialised services to the legal system and the Queensland public.
The duties of a JP (Qualified) are more onerous than those of a JP (Commissioners for Declarations). If you want more information please read the Justice Department Fact Sheet by clicking on this link.

Organisations, generally not-for-profit or community groups may be entitled to a free Queensland flag if they meet the conditions issued by the Department of Premier and Cabinet.
Those entitled include schools, tertiary institutions, Scouts, other youth organisations, service associations ie APEX, CWA etc., welfare organisations, ethnic organisations, sporting clubs, historical societies, museums, show societies, local fire brigades, and the like.
Queensland teachers and students proceeding overseas and who have been accepted into an overseas educational institution are eligible to receive one for presentation to that institution.
Applications may be made by emailing or writing to the electorate office. It takes about six weeks for the flag to become available. If you need more information regarding eligibility, please contact our office.

From time to time the Government asks citizens to nominate others for various awards. Some example are the awards made to volunteers and others who make a contribution to the community. Whenever I am advised that nominations are being called for an award, I will advertise the nomination process on this website as well in my newsletters and press releases.

Australian of the Year Awards
Nominations for Australian of the Year 2009 have now closed.
Each year our nation celebrates the achievement and contribution of eminent Australians through the Australian of the Year Awards by profiling leading citizens who are role models for us all. They inspire us through their achievements and challenge us to make our own contribution to creating a better Australia.
There are four award categories:
The prestigious year round program culminates in the announcement of the national award recipients in Canberra on Australia Day Eve.
